Kyrenia Opera’s mission is to forge an artistic connection between New York and Cyprus through vibrant productions and educational outreach to children and adults. With its home base in New York, Kyrenia Opera is dedicated to bringing the wealth of great vocal music to audiences in both countries.
Since its inauguration in 2012, Kyrenia Opera has provided outreach programing for more than 2,000 adults and children in the New York metropolitan area, Washington D.C. and Cyprus. Through performances, educational seminars, and master classes, Kyrenia Opera provides access to live music for underserved communities and the immediate community in New York City. In Cyprus the company has partnered with The Pancyprian Music High School, Pyrgos Tylliria Elementary and High School, Limassol Music High School “Marios Tokas”, and the Larnaca Music High School. In Washington D.C with The Library of Congress; Capitol Hill Cluster School; Watkins Elementary Schoo;, Patterson Elementary School; Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center; Sidwell Friends; Savoy Elementary School; Holy Trinity School and the Kelly Miller Middle School. In New York with the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts; The Cathedral School; P.S. 122; I.S. 141 and The Diller-Quaile School of Music.
Kyrenia Opera’s commitment to educational outreach has brought performances to the Kids Euro Festival in Washington, D.C. with “The Voice of Opera” for students at public and independent schools. At each presentation several students were transformed into opera singers in full costume. Additionally, Kyrenia Opera was invited to perform at Kennedy Center as part of the European Month of Culture. Kyrenia Opera’s annual Vocal Scholarship Competition, established in 2013, supports young vocalists through scholarships and mentoring from respected experts on classical singing. Kyrenia Opera is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization that relies on voluntary contributions in order to fulfill its mission.
